Product Description

In July 2003, British
Muslim artist Sami Yusuf released his debut album Al Mu’allim to
unprecedented acclaim and success. It was the first album by an Islamic artist
to receive such success in Europe, North America, North Africa, Turkey, the
Middle East, and Asia, with hits like Al Mu’allim, Who Is the Loved One,
and Ya Mustafa being on the tongues of Muslim children and adults from
London to Casablanca, and from Istanbul to Kuala Lumpur, making Sami a household
name in all those regions, and selling over 1 million copies worldwide.

Now 2 years later, Sami’s
second album, entitled My Ummah, is ready. It's a genre transcending
album with melodies and lyrics that grab you after the very first
listen-through. Clearly, Sami’s uniqueness is the special mix of different
cultures and artistic influences that he beautifully blends into amazing songs
not limited by narrow genres, but seamlessly combining several with ease. My
Ummah
has all the ingredients to become another worldwide success, inshallah.
The new album deals with – amongst other things - issues such as unity,
spirituality, sisters’ struggle to wear the scarf, terrorism, human brotherhood,
faith, and songs about Allah and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

With contribution from the famous Indian poet and lyricist
'Ustadh Mehboob' and a track featuring Danish rap group Outlandish, this album
is sure to be another success God willing.

About the Artist

Sami Yusuf was born
in the month of July 1980. He was born into a musical family of Azeri origin and
thus music played an integral part in his life. Sami's initial training came
from his father, who is an internationally renowned composer, poet, and a
multitalented musician.

Sami grew up in
London and learnt to play several instruments at a very young age and gradually
began to show a keen interest in singing and composing. He studied music at
several institutions and with renowned composers and musicians including
composers from the Royal Academy of Music in London, one of the world most
prestigious music institutions.

Sami has been composing from a very young
age and his beautiful voice is supplemented by his extensive knowledge of notes
and harmonies. He also has a good understanding of music theory and the Middle
Eastern modes (or Maqams).

Indeed, it is rare to find a person who has
all these talents. Sami is also a devout practicing British Muslim who sees
songs as a means of promoting the message of Islam and encouraging the youth to
be proud of their religion and ethnicity.
